Eligibility Guidelines for WIA

If you are a disabled youth, you may be considered a "Household of One" for the purpose of determining "low income.")

Under WIA income guidelines, certain types of income, such as unemployment, public assistance benefits, SSI, and child support, are not counted in determining the household’s income.


In addition, to be eligible for WIA programs, a youth must be one of the following:

  • deficient in basic literacy skills;

  • school drop-out; 

  • homeless, runaway or foster child;

  • pregnant or parenting;

  • offender;

  • an individual who requires additional assistance to complete an educational program or to secure and hold employment (ie. receiving counseling, resource room services, tutoring, PINS, truant, etc).

 

 

 

 

If you are not eligible under these guidelines... we do have another funding source, called TANF, that could mean a different kind of summer job for you.

All household income is counted in determining eligibility for TANF.

Youth who receive Medicaid, Food Stamps OR Free or Reduced Lunch are automatically eligible.

 

TANF funding cannot be used for employment placement at private, for profit employers. 

It can be used for participation in:

  • Career Exploration Program for 14 and 15 year old youth
  • Work Experience Program for 16 - 20 year old youth
